“limitations are perceptions”
Anders Hoffman, from Denmark who two years ago decided to
drastically change his life.he quit his job as a management consultant and
committed himself to one of the most audacious feats any human has ever attempted.
Finishing an Iron man Triathlon on the only continent where no one has ever
dared to try before, Antarctica.
Just so you know, that’s a 3.8 killometer swim, 180
killometer bike ride and a 42 killometer run, dodging leopard seals and all this
under sub-zero degree temperature and he calls it “The Iceman”
“while completing the Iceman
$10,035.46 was raised for Plastic Change ”
It all began, when Anders went online and watched “the
jump”, the jump is a documentary film about a Nick Jacobsen who attempts to
kite jump from the top of the iconic 321 metre high Burj Al Arab in Dubai. He
is internationally recognised as one of the world’s very best and most
attention grabbing kite surfers. Watching this man living his dream he wanted
to challenge himself and run the Iron Man.
He considered whether an Ironman
distance triathlon had been completed in all continents. Antarctica was the
only one remaining and when people had told him that it would be impossible,
the limitations
are perceptions moto was born.
Anders
finished third in 3:22:20 at the World’s coolest marathon, the Polar Circle Marathon in Greenland, which was not only his first marathon,
but also the first proper test and preparation for the Iceman in regards to the
physical impact and equipment when running in extreme and cold conditions.
‘The main challenge is actually not being able to train in
Antarctic conditions – I live in Copenhagen, Denmark, so it’s difficult to find
snow and ice and there are no inclines. Project Iceman will be on a glacier in
Antarctica which has lots of steep slopes, and obviously it will be freezing
cold, so it’s hard to imitate the conditions.’
Today, we often put
boundaries on ourselves or other people, making up limitations of what is achievable.
But Anders has shown us that even the ordinary can achieve the extraordinary
through passion, extreme dedication, supreme planning, and an immense belief in
yourself.
“DREAMS ARE MEANT TO
BE ACHIEVED, ESPECIALLY THE CRAZY ONES”
Have you ever had a dream that you were willing to risk everything for a
dream so big that every person in your life tries to talk you out of it, they
call you crazy and tell you that its impossible
Few months ago I came across Project ICEMAN.
Project Iceman was the documentary of the first ever, long distance
triathlon in Antarctica . It was a one time event which was first intended to
promote public awareness towards climate change and the vulnerable nature of
Antarctica but the purpose soon shifted to inspire other people to dare to
pursue their biggest dreams.
And the ultimate goal was to create a platform big enough for people to inspire each other achieve their own ”Iceman”
This idea goes hand in hand with what I am trying
to be a part of, a community of Dreamers that are not afraid to dream their
biggest and wildest dreams ..
